Grand Haven’s Azulstar to help provide WiFi on New Mexico train

By The Grand Rapids Press staff March 31, 2010, 10:57PM GRAND HAVEN — Wireless Internet provider Azulstar Inc. announced the official debut this week of a free wireless Internet system for passengers aboard New Mexico’s Railrunner Train System. The WiMAX/Wi-Fi system created by the Grand Haven-based company allows passengers and those at stations along the 95-mile route to access the Internet during their commute. The New Mexico Department of Transportation awarded Azulstar and its partner, INX, a $2.7 million contract to deploy the system. The network uses 22 Azulstar-installed WiMAX wireless base stations along the route for connections to the train as it moves at up to 90 mph. Travelers access the system using standard Wi-Fi equipment.
